Space has held an avid fascination for Man that spans many centuries.
People began measuring the stars thousands of years ago, and archaeological records show that astronomy was one of the first natural sciences developed by early civilizations.

And the nearest Star (excepting our very own Sun) is Proxima Centura which lies some 25,300,000,000,000 miles from us (4.3 light years away).
To give this mind-boggling number some context, it has been calculated that a car travelling nonstop at 60 mph would take over 48 million years to reach our nearest neighbour (celestial body wise).
